Machine Tapers

image link-topic-sf0.jpg

This subject is closely related to that of collets as every collet must incorporate a taper.

Tapers are well covered in the standard literature. For now, the Notebooks here contain just a little bit of analytic and historical information on the presently uncommon but beautifully designed Jarno taper.

Jarno Taper

A refreshingly simple locking taper introduced by Beale in 1889 but now not commonly seen. The Jarno taper is completely systematic - given only the taper's number, you know instantly all of the dimensions of the taper (no tables or calculations required).
