This patent references three earlier or pending patents. The first of these is US 376,765 (1888-01-24), which is the Barth and Lietze patent for the Barth type caster. Here it is referred to as one of Ziegler's patents - and error that can no doubt be ascribed to carelessness on the part of ATF's patent attorneys. The second patent referred to is in fact one of Ziegler's, US 660,237 (1900) for improvements on the Barth. Finally, it references Ziegler's then-pending patent application s/n 5,587 (1900), which was issued as US 678,831.
